"The combination of programming, and economic commercial logic is what characterises the analysis work at Lind Capital, and it is what I find most interesting"
Quantitative Analyst at Lind Capital
As Quantitative Analyst at Lind Capital you primarily concern yourself with mathematics and big amounts of data. In order to handle this, we use different tools for data analysis and programming. My favorite programming language is R. Besides coding skills our daily workday requires the ability to be critical, and some degree of business knowledge in order for you to translate a concrete business oriented issue to an analytical task.
Quantitative Research in different forms
As Quantitative Analyst you are involved in very different projects, which create great variation in your daily work. Not two analyses are the same in either shape or complexity. Among other things, I am involved in smaller ad-hoc analyses, which can be described as trade support projects. If I can help our Traders to a better overview, the value creation lies in the extra time our Traders get to actual business. At the same time, I work on bigger projects that can be very time consuming. This could be analyses to show the potential of new strategies but it can also include reinventing how we do things in order to challenge and improve already existing set-up.
Even though our projects are never the same the process is always the same. Data processing and quality ensuring will always, in some way, be a part of our projects. At the same time, there is often a need for visualising overall patterns and dive into details. This is where competencies within programing and e.g. Python and R, and to some degree VBA, are very important. The link between the actual programming and the logic of economy and business is what characterizes the analysis work in Lind Capital, and it is what I find most interesting.
Lind Capital Quantitative Research team
At Lind Capital value creation is not only dependent on well-functioning strategies but also from well-functioning mind-sets, and an open culture where our three values are pride of place; Winning, Co-operation and Open-minded. These values are very much incorporated in the daily work of the analysis team.
In my team we have a very flexible approach to our everyday, which means that it is easy to reschedule and prioritise important projects. We are open-minded because we quickly move focus and spent working hours where it matters most. At the same time the flexibility means that we know each other’s’ projects and use each other’s’ different competencies on both bigger and smaller things; we co-operate. We update each other during the process of each project and we are aware that every team member should be able to communicate a conclusion from each project. In order to end a project within a reasonable time, analytical resources are not the only thing required but a great portion of willingness is too. You have to be willing to go an extra mile and contribute that extra when needed. The team’s desire to win is reflected in these changing working hours.
Even though the Quantitative Research team is a young team, Lind Capital’s three fundamental values are incorporated in our methods and daily rhythm. It is in the intersection between the values, the analysis, and the company in general, that value is created. At the same time it is in this intersection that it gets really fun to be a part of Lind Capital’s analysis team!
